Sandvika Master Series

A highly successful duo collaboration is coming to Store Sal in October: Flutist Emmanuel Pahud and pianist Eric Le Sage have released critically acclaimed albums and toured extensively. Now the two are finally ready for the Sandvika Master Series.

Flutist Emmanuel Pahud is recognized worldwide as one of his instrument's foremost performers. The Berliner Philharmoniker's solo flutist tours the world, releases solo albums on EMI Classics and has a living room wall full of prizes and awards.

When he teams up with the pianist Eric Le Sage, you can expect a real treat.

Mozart, Brahms, Reinecke, Prokofiev

The repertoire this evening is of the kind that really makes the interplay between the two shine: Mozart's Sonata B, Brahms' Sonata No. 2 in E-flat Op. 120, Carl Reinecke's Sonata Op. 167 and Prokofiev's Sonata in D Op. 94.

Pahud = a master

Emmanuel Pahud (b. 1970) is one of the world's foremost flautists. Pahud was born in Geneva and began studying music at the age of six. He graduated in 1990 with the Premier Prix from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. At the age of 22, Pahud joined the Berlin Philharmonic as first flautist under Claudio Abbado, a position he still holds today.

In addition to his involvement with the Berlin Philharmonic, Pahud is a sought-after soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe, North America and Japan. He is best known for repertoire with elements of baroque and classical flute. Pahud has been taught and mentored by renowned flautists such as François Binet, Carlos Bruneel and Aurèle Nicolet.

The French school

French pianist Eric Le Sage is well-established as a recognized representative of the French piano school. His finely tuned touch, good structural understanding and gorgeous poetic phrasing are traits that are highlighted by critics and audiences around the world. At the age of 20, he was hailed by the Financial Times as “a rising disciple of the great French tradition” while die Zeit praised his “outstanding French piano aesthetics and clarity”.

Le Sage has played solo recitals and chamber music performances at major venues around the world, such as Wigmore Hall, Suntory Hall, Carnegie Hall, Hamburg's Laeiszhalle, Paris Philharmonie, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Radio France, Cologne Philharmonie, Essen Philharmonie, Dresden Philharmonie, Frankfurt Alte Oper, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, Schwartzenberg's Schubertiade, Salzburg Mozarteum, Ludwigsburg Festival, Prague's Rudolfinium, Taipei National Concert Hall, Konzerthaus Wien, Luxembourg Philharmonie, Dublin's Celebrity Series, Edinburgh International Festival, Düsseldorf's Tonhalle, la Roque d'Anthéron Festival, Potsdam Sanssouci, Brussels' Bozar, Berlin's Boulezsaal, Konzerthaus Berlin and Berlin Philharmonie.
