Jazzrausch Bigband
Popular big band with roots in club music gives you a high-energy party night in Store Sal
Jazzrausch Bigband has toured big stages and techno festivals around Europe, Asia, America and Asia. Now this crazy German big band phenomenon is finally coming to Norway and the Bærum Jazz Festival. What other band could have played both in the Munich Philharmonic and in dark Berlin clubs? In the Great Hall in November, you'll find out how this is possible.
From Dancing Wittgenstein to Beethoven's Breakdown
What really sets this big band apart from all the others is the unique mix between a traditional big band with a jazz flavour and a solid dose of club music.
With an average of 80 concerts per year in Europe, America, Asia and Africa, Jazzrausch Bigband is one of the busiest big bands in Europe. With ‘power, groove and enormous stage presence’ (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung), the band reaches out to both jazz and electronica fans.
The driving forces behind Jazzrausch Bigband are Munich-based trombonist and music manager Roman Sladek and guitarist and composer Leonhard Kuhn. In 2015, just one year after its inception, Jazzrausch Bigband became the house band at one of the most recognised techno clubs in Europe, ‘Harry Klein’. Having a big band as a house band in a techno club was unheard of before this band emerged. Soon they began to reach a larger audience, and the band soon sold out major rock venues such as Munich's Muffathalle, as well as classical concert halls such as the Munich Philharmonic.
From the Urals to Shanghai
Tours have taken Jazzrausch Bigband to Lincoln Center in New York, JZ Festival in Shanghai, Safaricom International Jazz Festival in Nairobi, Ural Music Night in Yekaterinburg and SXSW Music Festival in Austin, among many other venues.
This is part of the explanation for a band that could be called a phenomenon. A phenomenon that, in its very own way, shows what's cooking in the music genre that calls itself ‘jazz’. More than ever, this has become the melting pot for everything that doesn't fit into any other category.
And everyone involved, both the band and the audience, enjoys tearing down boundaries. In this context, the music of Jazzrausch Bigband seems to fulfil desires in several ways: the clubbers' appetite for more handmade and original music, and the demand from jazz and classical music enthusiasts for power, entertainment and a magnificent sound.
